Club League 2020

2020 Club League - Final

Club League suspended for 2020 due to Covid-19

Welcome to the Arrows Club League.

The Club League is provided to give members a fun and interesting way of participating together and competing with each other in a friendly way. There are a few changes in races this year with the inclusion of some new events in favour of others which have proved less popular. We have also included the MWRRL races and adjusted some of the points you can earn in some of the events.

Members are encouraged to participate in League events for fun and to achieve their own running goals, but also to encourage and support their fellow Arrows.

Above all this is for FUN and to balance out speed with commitment!

We do not anticipate that anyone will compete in everything, and some events may not be taking place every year.

Results will be published throughout the race calendar to celebrate performance. Each year at the Club Annual General Meeting, the Committee will recognise achievements in this league with awards.

The rules will not normally be subject to change during year and additional races will not normally be added in during the year. Appeals or queries regarding your points should initially be raised with the League Manager via this email address.  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The Club Captains will be asked to recommend to the committee what actions to take in the event of extraordinary, unplanned circumstances. The committee ruling will be final.

NOTE: We will only accept your time if you have run under your own name.

We wish everyone a good year of running and hope that you enjoy the League.

Let the fun begin!

League Manager, the Captains and the Committee

Webmaster's note: We will publish the list of League events chronologically here Road in Red, Trail in Green

5k Handicap 2022

Monthly 5k Handicap 2022

After a 2 year suspension caused by the pandemic the Arrows monthly 5k handicap is finally back!

The third Tuesday of the month (unless notified otherwise) we run a 5k handicap race. Its a lot of fun and because we start the slower runners off first the quick people have to work extra hard if they want to win. We meet at the club as normal but try to be a few minutes early so that we can work out your start time etc.

After the race we either have tea and cake or occasionally head down to the Engineer pub for a bite to eat and a well earned drink. (You can come for / with cake / pub if you didn't run too.)

You can shower at St Georges if you wish.

We run on the Winter circuit from Sep onwards. Please wear high viz clothing. If you can't run please come along and help with the marshalling.

Running qualifies you to points in the Arrows club League and volunteering (marshalling, timing etc) earns you points for the volunteers League. Club League details see Club League 2022 . Pre-pandemic results see 5k Handicap

Cross Country

XC

We were last able to run some of the Cross Country events in the 2019 / 20 season – with the final event at Royston being disrupted by the COVID pandemic.  However, we now are entering our 10th year / season of the Cross-Country (XC) Sunday League.  There are always some stalwart supporters (thank you), some one-timers (thank you) and those that dutifully turn up to support all those others who perhaps take it more seriously than they should (thank you to those too!).  Attendance is typically between 20-30 of us, with the ladies matching the men on numbers. It can be parkland, grassland, woodland, flatland and hillyland.  There may be mud!

We do, of course recognise that XC does seem to be a bit marmite (either love it or hate it) so for those who don’t like it, please take the arm-twisting you may be potentially subjected to with a pinch of salt.  We’re ultimately happy that people have the chance to run a race for free – but have to balance that with our desire to do as well as we have in the past.

Don’t forget, we always need a full team to score and everyone always counts – whatever your speed or position as your place will push everyone below you further down the potential for scoring against us.

Full results are available at http://www.runherts.com/xc.htm, however we also continue to be well represented in the individual rankings too for anyone appearing in the top 5 across 4 out of 5 races.

Mid Week League 2022

MWRRL

Since 2016, Arrows have paid fees for any current Arrows member to enter any, or all
of the races in the MWRRL - the Mid-Week Road Race League. There are typically 4
x 10k races run for Division 1 and the same for Divisions 2 and 3 (who run together) that
count towards the league for individual and team. There is an additional 5th race
billed a “mob-match” which is done just for fun for all the Divisions. (Arrows are currently Div 2)

Since we started racing in the league in 2016, we’ve been flip-flopping between
Division 2 and 3 as we get promoted / demoted. Attendance has ranged between 5-35
people with races done across Herts and North London with a variety of locations
from Harlow, Royston, Hitchin and Stevenage. We even hosted a race in
Harpenden in 2019 for over 400 runners!

The races were cancelled in 2020 and then run virtually in 2021 – just for fun! We
have our own Strava segment route as an out and back from Rothamsted Park to
the bottom of the Holly Lane steps on the Nickey Line. The route can be found here.
