MidWeek Road Race League

MWRRL

The MidWeek Road Race League (MWRRL) finished last week with the traditional finale, the Mob Match. Twenty-one Arrows ran, fed on the buffet and collected prizes for their efforts over the Summer's 4 races.

It all started at Stevenage back in May with the Hitchin-organised race. 26 of us made for two full, strong teams. As a result, we led the Vets combined team competition. Brilliant, but could we hang on to it?

Despite a huge turnout at our Harpenden race Dacorum AC upped their game and pushed us into 2nd. The good news was our boys were leading the Men's Vet race.

Would the Royston hills defeat us? Hell no, we consolidated our 2nd overall combined and 1st men's Vets positions despite being short of a full ladies team.

It all hung on Trent Park! Numbers were a bit down but those who ran smashed it. Both teams finished second on the night, a great achievement.

So where did we finish, did anyone get individual awards and did the Men's Vet team hang on to 1st place?

Answer: Yes and Yes :-)  See below.

THANK YOU ABD WELL DONE

A huge thank you and well done to all 52 who ran this year. At times it was hot, humid, hilly and hard but overall great fun. Let's all do it again next year!

WHAT'S MWRRL ABOUT?

The Midweek League is a series of races run in Hertfordshire and the surrounding area. Each race is approximately 10k. The races are free for any paid-up member and suitable for all abilities.

The races are competitive but quite sociable too, with host clubs providing an ample buffet over which you can discuss race highs and lows.

  • There is no entry fee - it is FREE for members (the registration fee is paid by Arrows)
  • Turn-up and run! (Webmaster: But you must wear an official Red and White Arrows vest / shirt. Post on Facebook if you need one or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for help)

WHY DO IT?

Apart from the point of view that it IS A LOT OF FUN.....

  • They are small intimate and friendly (but competitive) events
  • Not too long races, not too far away
  • Everyone could have the chance to contribute (remember that you don’t score if you don’t have a full team)
  • It’s free
  • It’s fun (did we mention that?)
  • There is typically cake!
