Arrows Running News and September Schedule

September News and Schedule

August was a quieter month for Arrows with many of us taking advantage of spending time with family and friends on our annual holidays (despite the awful summer weather we have been experiencing).

However, having said that there were still some events taking place. Following many requests, we decided to run a track night at KWS, as always this was well attended. We will resume our track nights at Stockwood Park in September (see below for dates). There were a couple of “I run for beer” events hosted by Lyndon. Chas Andrews and Lyndon Hearn ran the St Albans Sixer on the 27th of August. Jillian Russell ran the Stopsley 10-mile trail on the 13th, whilst Anita joined Stephen McKee in the Kirkcaldy Half on the 27th of August. Finally, we had the Club 5k. This was the last run on the summer course on the Nickey Line. We had 8 runners taking part – thanks as well to our volunteers, we couldn’t run this event without you.

parkrun has again seen you running at various locations around the country. parkrun tourism took place at Rushmere with 7 people running. Team McKee continues to represent Arrows running their parkruns in Scotland, they were joined at Auldcathie District by Jillian, David and Amy Russell.

The Hatfield 5k series starts on the 30th of August (see below for more details and note the date of the scoring event for the club league) and hopefully, we will see you at the Club 5k on the 26th of September (we will be back on the winter route).

Don’t forget to enter the Arrows Club League nominated distance races. We’ve got the 5k, 5m and 10k still to run. Entries are now open for registration. Remember to register as an Arrow and use your EA number and ATW discount code if applicable. No booking is needed for the 3 XC fixtures which also count in October and November. Read all about the league and follow the links to book – https://www.harpendenarrows.co.uk/web/indix.php/leagues/364-arrows-club-league-2023.

Lastly - there's a meeting of the Arrows management team at the end of September where will discuss the results of the 'time to start' survey that's been on Facebook here. Please go vote if you haven't already and we'll see what people are preferring and what's feasible. Drop a line to us if you don't use Facebook.

Happy Running for September and until the next Edition.

Sharon & Spiersy.

Arrows Running News and July Schedule

July News and Schedule

The month of June had a very successful MWRRL, lots of events including the talk / evening with Patrick after the club 5k, Bury Field parkrun tourism, St Albans half and others.  We also had Isabel helping a crowd join the Street-O event around Harpenden and then Southdown.

It's got to be said that our volunteers throughout our MWRRL, the club 5k and every run night have done a sterling job and it's very much appreciated by everyone in the community!

Would love to say more, but time is short and just wanted to make sure people knew the schedule this month and had a refresh on the discount codes.

Happy Running for the rest of July!  Hopefully we see you at the Mob match on 12th and the Club 5k on 18th.

Keep an eye on further notices on Facebook or get in touch.

June News and Schedule

May certainly had a lot going beyond our first MWRRL, Wheato 10k and the parkrun tourism: I was told of adventures longer and further afield with Patrick McGuiness who did the Camino trail 1009k over 26 days. Ammon and Terry did the Ultra Trail Snowdonia 100k (22 hours, 6,500m climb), and Mark Hammond walked the St Columbus Way (st Andrews to Iona, 351k). Lyndon did the Two Oceans ultra (56km) and The Hobbit (90k over 2 days). Chas and Dave did the beer marathon in fancy dress as Roman Centurions. I'm sure that there is more... sorry to have missed them out.

June is also going to be a busy month..... We've got our hosting of the MWRRL race for Div III clubs on the 6th, 2 more races on the 15th and 29th, we're moving the speed sessions to KWS to the grass track - returning to Stockwood in September, the Club 5k and several local events including the Oval Run on the 24th June. May's parkrun at Houghton Hall was well attended and Julie has proposed the 17th of June at Bury Field. There is also potential talk of seeing if we can join the street-O event in Harpenden on 13th June.

Keep an eye on further notices on Facebook or get in touch.

Mid-Week Road Race League - a last call for help

The club has been in the Sunday League and MWRRL for over 12 years and managed to host a race just once before. We've got the chance to give something back and will be hosting on the 6th of June at the Rugby Club.

We've had a number of volunteers - but are still short of a few for marshalling the runners out of the rugby club and through West Common. Can you help? As you can imagine, there are lots of twists and turns in West Common and need people - so not solely relying on the signs that we're going to be putting up. Thanks to everyone already volunteering and there are some opportunities to help and run as help will be needed before and after the race.

Not keen to volunteer? No harm, please come and RUN! We'd love to see a full team and a sea of red Arrows in any photos.

Please email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and it will get through to me. Steve who's doing a great job, will mark up the course and be your Marshall Director on the day. Alternatively, please join the WhatsApp group.

It's never too late, so if you can do on the night, please turn up from 7 pm for the Marshall briefing. If you want to help with car parking - it's 6 pm.

Race Instructions can be found at: MWRRL Div III Race 2 Harpenden Instructions FINAL.pdf

Look forward to seeing you!
