Club Performance Awards 2024

Club Performance Awards for 2024

WAVA Performance Awards Scheme requirements

We are hoping to see a return to a normal Race Calendar this year, although there may be some cancellations. We have renamed 'Club Standards' as 'Performance Standards' keeping the traditional 'Gold', 'Silver' 'Bronze' etc as in pre-Covid times. These awards will work in the familiar way with slightly different qualifying requirements for the 'basket' of events and different WAVA scores determining which Award you can claim.

We will be retaining the facility to submit virtual races, so long as the results are published so that we can verify your results, most race events should be admissible, if if events need to go virtual again to comply with Government or EA restrictions.

N.B. The Full House is now part of the 'Distance Challenges' - see the Distance Challenges - 2024

Please keep track of where the results to your events can be found – we’ll need the URL to your result to verify your time. You must have run the event under your own name. Obviously, there is a degree of trust in this so please be honest about your races! We really don't want to refuse anybodies claim but we will have to if it's clearly untrue or incomplete.

Hopefully the Awards scheme will motivate some of you to get out there and aim for something! You have all year to complete your qualifying events – and any ‘actual’ or 'virtual' races you do should be eligible to be counted too.

The rules

Qualifying races must have been run in the current calendar year, Jan to Dec. These must be from 5k upwards, and be formal public events open to all runners. Cross Country and MWRR League events MAY be used this year as a qualifyiing 'other distance event' but cannot be used to support your WAVA claim as the distances are variable.

You can include one from each of your best Arrows 5k and ONE parkrun.  You can of course submit other 5k events too - like Marsden Forest or the Hatfield 5k series races if they happen.

For the Arrows 5k handicaps you need to tell us the date when you ran it.

No duplications are allowed. Please don’t submit a claim based on the same run under a virtual 5k event AND Arrows 5k for example. You need different runs for each of your submitted results - different dates and different events.

For the Parkrun result you must use the WAVA calculation supplied by the Parkrun. We can verify your result from the Parkrun Website but to aid checking please forward the Parkrun email or tell us the race location and the date.

For all  races other than Parkrun, please calculate the WAVA score using the 'Fetch' WAVA calculator. No other calculation is accepted.

Subject to the rules stated here you can include ANY distance-based races with specific distances and publicly published results. You cannot just go out and run and submit that (not for this award - but it still counts for annual distance awards). It must be an organised event that you have signed up for. You can include organised physical or virtual events provided the results are publicly published. You cannot use lap based endurance events like Stampede or Thunderrun where the main objective is to run as many laps as possible in a fixed period, but you can use events – like Sikhs in the City Dawn to Dusk - where the objective is to gain an award for half marathon, marathon or 50k (or whatever) by running different numbers of small laps to complete the distance.

You cannot double up so for example you cannot submit both a half marathon and a marathon using the same marathon run, etc. To make this point clear we will only allow one event on any particular calendar date.

For distances of a half marathon and above, where the virtual event permits it, you do not need to complete the required distance in one go. If you choose to split your run, the time will be from the start time of the first leg to the end time of the last leg. E.g. If you run a marathon (needed for Gold and Platinum) starting at 9 am on Monday and finish 11:15 am on Wednesday please calculate your time as 3 days 2 hours and 15 minutes. Obviously the WAVA will be incredibly low but it will count as your qualifying marathon distance.

All events in your claim must be supported by the organiser's results pages, not Strava Activities, Garmin Activities etc. If you intend using an event for your standards please check with the event organisers where the results will be published.

If you are not sure if your race / event qualifies please check with the committee BEFORE the end of the year. We will try to be as flexible as possible but we will stick to these rules.

The requirements for the various levels of award are as follows:

Club Performance Award (Level 1) Complete 3 formal events at 2 different distances, 1 of which must be at   55% WAVA or better.

Bronze Performance Award (Level 2) Complete at least 4 formal events over a minimum of 2 different distances of which 1 must be a minimum of 10k, 2 of which must be 60% WAVA or above

Silver Performance Award (Level 3) Complete at least 4 formal events over a minimum of 3 different distances, 1 of which must be a minimum of a half marathon and 3 of which must be 65% WAVA or above

Gold Performance Award (Level 4) Complete at least 5 formal events over a minimum of 3 different distances, 1 of which must be a minimum of a marathon, 4 of which must be 70% WAVA or above

Platinum Performance Award (Level 5) Complete at least 6 formal events, over at least 4 different distances including a 5k, a marathon,  and an ultra (30 miles or longer), 4 of which must be 80% WAVA or above

N.B. You do not have to achieve the required WAVA standard in all your races but you must submit a 'basket' of races and events which include all the required distances, and the required number of results at the correct WAVA level or above. Please check before you submit you have enough events, the required mix of different distances AND enough high WAVA scores. ONE PARKRUN ONLY to be included.

You cannot include runs you have done which are not part of an organised event or virtual event. Sadly, Cross Country / League / Midweek League races can only be used as 'different distances' - the WAVA scores will not count as the distances are only approximate.

You can claim your Award now using THIS LINK. Claims must be made by 23:59 on Jan 1st 2025. This will be strictly enforced.

If you prefer something shorter and faster how about the The Arrows Rocket Award - 2024 which will also be running again this year.
