Join us

Harpenden Arrows is a social and friendly running club. Whether you just want to run to keep fit or you’re after some friendly competitive rivalry to see if you can push yourself that little bit further, you’ll be more than welcome at our running club.

Some people find the thought of joining a running club a little daunting. Don’t be put off – our Membership Secretary and all the committee members, are there to help you out and make sure that your first club sessions work for you.

Who can join?

All members must be over the age of 18 years old, according to our club rules and affiliation. Whatever your standard of fitness, you’ll find other people in the club who are about the same standard as you. All we ask is that you can run for at least 30 minutes and 12:30 minute/mile pace or faster*. Our slowest group runs for 3 miles, with other groups running from 5 to 8 miles on club nights.

Everyone is welcome to try us out before joining. Please contact our membership secretary (details below) for more information.

Club Nights

* we sometimes offer a weekly social walking group for those currently injured or returning to running, and we also offer beginners courses to help those new to running reach our standard - more details on our 'Start Running Beginners Course' page.

First or second claim

When you join a running club, providing it is your only club, that is your first claim club. If you subsequently join another club, for example because you’re working in a different area, that will be your second claim club. You can race as an individual in open races for any club you are a member of, although of course we’d prefer that our club was your first claim club. However, for league and championship races and to count as part of a scoring team, you have to compete for your first claim club. This system was primarily designed by UKA to stop elite athletes swapping from club to club regularly.

How to join

Club membership is currently £25 for the year April 2022 to March 2023, reduced to £12.50 if you join after the 1st October. All current members should renew in April.

Optional (recommended) membership to England Athletics (EA) for an additional £16* a year (April 2022 to March 2023).
