The Arrows Rocket Award - 2022

Are you fast enough?

This new award was introduced in 2018 as a trial and is back again for 2022 with a few alterations due to the restrictions caused by the pandemic. Basically we've made virtual races admissible. Hopefully these changes will make it possible to get the qualifying times needed in what looks like it's going to be another strange year, whilst still making it a real challenge to hit the required WAVA scores.

You will need to run 3 different short distances but each one at a high WAVA to qualify.

If you are more into speed than long distances this could be for you...

We introduced the Rocket Award in response to feedback received from members about club standards. Some members have said that they would like to have something to aim for which doesn't involve long distances. Some members have also noted its a big jump from the 70% WAVA needed for the Gold standard to the 80% needed for Platinum. (It is!)

The Rocket requires you to complete 3 events at 75% WAVA or above.

If you are not sure what WAVA is have a read of this : https://www.fetcheveryone.com/cms-44

The Award is very straightforward. You just need 3 results at WAVA 75% or above. A 5 mile, a 5 k and a 1 mile. One of each. Simple.

For the 5k and the 5 mile you need to take part in an organised public event - physical or virtual - over an accurate distance. For the 5k can use a Parkrun or the club handicap, or Fly5k. Results must be published by the organisers, and you will need to be able to supply the URL where the results are shown in your claim. Strava segments and non event runs will not be accepted for these distances.

For the 1 mile only you can submit a race result - physical or virtual - (there are a few 1 mile races about when you look) but we will also accept a timed 1 mile segment from Strava - e.g. the Arrows Magic Mile on Swan Walk, or the segment called 'Southdown all the way'.  Your time on this segment can be an activity in it's own right or part of a longer activity, as long as the segment itself is 1.0 mile or longer, and the average grade is not less than -0.1% (i.e. the segment cannot be net downhill).
You will need to give us the Strava activity reference number, and the segment name.  e.g. https://www.strava.com/activities/6591437823/segments/2921879581757589968 Topstreet to Milton

Timed miles at Arrows track nights are also acceptable, assuming we manage to keep track nights running.

Please remember this is still quite a new award and we may have to sort out any wrinkles as they appear..
